as of late, i have been consumed with studying for external exams. i haven’t even been doing too much but i feel frozen, stuck with how much i still need to do. just for all of you who read this little part of me, i’m going to share with you some things that i love. video essays, longform articles, poetry, music, books, you name it.
I have a strong feeling that this is my favourite poem of all time ~~~~~~~~~~
tomorrow when the farm boys find this
freak of nature, they will wrap his body
in newspaper and carry him to the musuem.
but tonight he is alive and in the north
field with his mother. It is a perfect
summer evening: the moon rising over
the orchard, the wind in the grass. And
as he stares into the sky, there are
twice as many stars as usual.
The Two Headed Calf - Laura Gilpin
i’ve been discovering different metaphors lately that relate to love. i’m not sure if it’s some kind of sign from my subconscious or not but it has got me thinking.
peel an orange for me and i will love you forever
cold water feels warm when your hands are freezing
“Don’t try to be a hero, or a sage, or a warrior. Just exist for a while and be decent. That’s heroism enough.”
The universe isn't what will remember us. It'll be us, ourselves, that'll carry those memories. We'll all waste our time thinking of existential bullshit, wondering if we ever truly matter to the universe. The truth is, we don't matter to the universe. We matter to each other. We matter to the people who love us, and those people matter to us because we love them, too. We don't have to be part of some "grand scheme of things," because we're part of each other's lives. And sometimes, that's enough.
"The universe doesn't give a shit about you... but your village? Your family? Me? We do."
This video essay on postmodernism in celebrity culture was extremely interesting… I’ve always been intrigued with how celebrities choose to express themselves and if they are willingly crafting their target audiences or simply being their most authentic selves.
"It’s just that I’ve only gotten to know love briefly, conceptually, theoretically — in flashes and tiny water drops from a broken faucet."
This is one of those subtack pieces that has not left my thoughts since I read it last.
An in-depth video essay on one of my favourite animated tv shows. It showcases the sheer depth and life lessons behind the absurd comedy with its explicit theming. The characters all tell you how they’re feeling, and it’s all done in a very engaging and thought-provoking way.
on my read list:
so many of these I am shocked I haven’t got around to reading yet. if only i had all the time in the world, these would have been ticked off ages ago…
A Little Life - Hanya Yanagihara
Diary of An Oxygen Thief
The Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka
on my watch list:
Eyes Wide Shut - Stanley Kubrick (1999)
Aftersun - Charlotte Wells (2022)
